The Monkey

The Monkey is definitely the best Halloween movie I’ve seen this year! A great Halloween movie isn’t just about pure fright - it’s fun, it’s campy, and it’s clever, and if it’s also scary that’s a bonus. While The Monkey is light on the scary, it makes up for it in all the other categories. Unless you’re squeamish, I’d definitely recommend this.

Definitely more dark comedy than horror here I’d say, but such a fun ride! Most of the movie felt unpredictable and wildly chaotic, but the ending felt a little lacking in the plot/writing. Still, I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would based on the reviews. I love the creativity of the horror/comedy blends like this - keep ‘em coming!

I rarely like to say that I know more than others in movies, but I truly believe that I do know more seeing the reviews. The number one thing that needs to be understood is that this is a comedy, not a horror film. I know it is marketed as such and if you go into it wanting to watch a horror film, specifically like Oz Perkins’ last film Longlegs, you will be disappointed. If you go in with the right attitude, you are in for a hoot. It's not a traditionally great film with deep themes and fantastic acting that would make an 8, but it all worked so well for me. I just had a lot of fun and if you can deal with gore I think you need to watch it.
