The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

I’ve watched a lot of Andy Griffith Show and my dad AKA Big Brett is a known Andy Griffith superfan, and in my mind, Don Knotts is the reason that show is so enduring. It’s really fun to see him in another role, an unlikely lead in a classic comedy horror. While he’s still largely Barney Fife, you kind of forget that and settle in to the charm of a less southern town than Mayberry, and enjoy Don Knotts haphazardly unraveling a decades long mystery. This is what on the first movies E and I watching when we first started dating, and it will always think of it fondly for that, but it’s very fun to revisit and a great Halloween flick.

I grew up watching this movie about once a year with my cousins at my aunt & uncle’s lake house. The DVD version was one of the first things I ever bought myself on Amazon. But somehow I haven’t revisited it in at least 10 years! I’m likely a bit biased, but I think this movie holds up remarkably well for being almost 60 years old - it’s spooky, silly, captures the small-town community feeling, and has some hilarious lines of dialogue. The organ music will stick in your head for days to come. Would highly recommend!
