Elf
With the exception of It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf is the best Christmas movie ever made. Rewatching it for the 100th time, I was reminded that part of its genius is how innocent it is. Many directors could have easily taken a more crass route for comedy bits, but it’s Jon Favreau maintaining Buddy’s innocence that makes this so endearing. Will Ferrell as Buddy is probably one of the greatest casting decisions of all-time. Love every watch of this.
-Z
One of my favorite Christmas movies of all time, this seems to never get old, and I’m glad Z & I revisited this over the holidays! I remember watching this on my personal DVD player all year round back in the day. I named my plant (which is still on display in my living room) Francisco after I saw this for the first time. The plot, writing, acting - it’s all comedy gold and holds up pretty well. Will Ferrell in peak comedy form. I’m also so glad this never got turned into a multi-movie franchise.
