Final Destination

It’s been over two decades since I’ve seen this and I am so glad the new one gave E and I an excuse to watch this because it really is an amazing popcorn horror film, in the vein of Scream, in that it’s horror but it’s also super fun. It’s a perfect time capsule of late 90s / early 2000s, which is such a vibe, with or without the personal nostalgia. It’s not nearly as scary as I remember, but alas, many horror flicks of my teens likely aren’t. Like much of the genre, the film does suffer in some categories, namely plot logic, but dialogue, acting, and general premise are all surprisingly good, and as E says, holds up in a way that is noteworthy.

The way this holds up 25 years later is remarkable. A bit predictable, yes, and definitely some plot hole issues, but this was much more fun and creative than I expected given the pretty poor reviews. The eerie vibe here would make for a great Spooktober watch!
